I arrived at AOPA less than a year ago with a lifelong passion for aviation and a vision of sharing that passion, not only with pilots like myself, but with countless others who may not even know that flying is within their reach.

President's Position: Flying fun

Pilot Magazine | May 12, 2014

Flying is fun. Or at least it should be. Most of us can give 100 well-thought-out reasons why we fly—transportation, business, convenience, efficiency, productivity.

President's Position: What’s past is prologue

Pilot Magazine | Apr 04, 2014

Most of us weren’t born in May 1939 when a handful of pilots gathered around a table to formalize a commitment they’d long since made—to protect the freedom to fly.

President's Position: Behind the curtain

Pilot Magazine | Oct 01, 2013

President’s Position: Your AOPA Summit

Pilot Magazine | Aug 01, 2013

During the course of the year, AOPA creates and participates in gatherings across the country where we interact with our members, share flying stories, and talk about the issues that affect our general aviation community. President’s Position: Regulatory delays

Pilot Magazine | Jul 01, 2013

During most AOPA Town Hall gatherings, I remind participating members that AOPA's founders created our organization in 1939 largely because they feared that a government about to enter a world war just might regulate general aviation out of existence. Nearly 75 years later, our mission is grounded in similar concerns--raised not by the prospect of war but by the growing power of regulatory agencies, many of which operate with increasing autonomy and minimal oversight.
