MEMBER ALERT: AOPA will be closing at 1:45 p.m. Eastern on Dec. 6 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Eastern on Dec. 9.
The FAA has implemented new guidelines that allow Aviation Medical Examiners to issue medical certificates without written or verbal FAA approval for certain medical conditions that previously required special issuance authorizations. For recertification at the time of your next medical renewal, you will repeat the process and provide the above information to your AME.
If the records demonstrate the cancer has spread beyond the capsule or there is evidence of any other advanced disease, your application will be deferred and the medical records will be forwarded to the FAA for a decision. It is possible you may still be found qualified for a special issuance authorization or an AASI Protocol.
AOPA thanks our members for their continued support in protecting the freedom to fly.
