Location: Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Frederick, Maryland

Paid Summer Internship:  May to August 

About the PIC

As the foremost technical resource available to the general aviation community, AOPA’s Pilot Information Center (PIC) strives to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and technical expertise. Our skilled team of pilots, flight instructors, medical certification specialists, and digital product support specialists has more than 80,000 hours of collective flight experience and plays a pivotal role in AOPA’s mission and objectives. Our specialists respond to more than 200,000-member questions and thousands of e-mails and letters each year. The PIC also includes our Flight Operations team, which is responsible for maintaining our fleet of aircraft in both Frederick, MD and across the country.

About the Position

Duties may be aligned with intern’s academic or career goals and may encompass:

  • Aviation technical support including:
    • Responding to member inquiries including research and email/mail responses
    • Aircraft donation program support
    • PIC Website Maintenance
  • Aircraft maintenance support including:
    • Aircraft supplies ordering and stocking
    • Aircraft maintenance assistance (oil changes, 50 hr / 100 hr / annual inspections)
    • Aircraft movementAvionics maintenance and updates<


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (scale of 4.0)
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) desirable
  • Eager to learn
  • Ability to research aviation topics and produce customer-facing responses based on findings
  • Interest in the general aviation industry
  • Courteous and professional
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
