Responding to Wadelveille's comment. True, those are the prices they advertise over the phone but my experience, having flown there at least 12 times in the past couple summers is that they don't charge you if you're there just to eat. $15 for an overnight really isn't bad, but you are correct; you could fly into MVY for less, but it just isn't the same. As for the $25 beach parking, I usually park at the Diner and eat, then taxi down to the beach parking for the afternoon. I think I've only paid the $25 fee once and that was a Holiday or something. Usually it's only 10 or 15, or even 0 on some days. All about who you know and who you're NICE to. Again, not bad for a day on South Beach, one of the nicest locations in the world in my humble opinion. Of all the airports that are worthy of our complaints as pilots, Katama is NOT one of them. I defend them vigorously because I think we pilots are way too CHEAP! If we ever lose these places, we will all be very sorry. My only complaint recently has been the poor service at the restaurant, which is too bad. With that said; however, I will still frequent it often and enjoy the privilege of landing at Katama.

Hi, I was planning to schedule a meetup and give the Right Ford Diner a lot business, but called the FBO Direct number (508-627-7677). I'm glad I did. They told me the fees are as follows. Land and have a meal at the diner ($10) Stay overnight or / 24 hr period ($15) Land and go to beach ($25) Not sure why the 24 hr period is $15 and the beach is $25. Sounds like a money pool for someone.. Heck, MVY is free if it's just for the day and $10 for overnight.. Go there, take the public transit for $7.

This airport is a true gem for general aviation. The turf was in very good shape. The staff was very nice. The diner was very good. The beach is beautiful. A shuttle bus to take you into town. What more could you ask? Only suggestion, rehearse your soft field technique, and take caution on the roll out, all 3 runways are only 50 ft. wide, the depth perception might throw you off.

Katama is a wonderful GA resource and a great day trip for any pilot in New England. For all those who shy away from an unpaved runway, Katama is perfect for you. It's on a drained tidal marsh so it's not smooth but feels like it's as hard as any asphalt runway you've touched down on. Taxi to the far end and park by the beach. The bus comes by regularly so you can go into Edgartown and do lunch and some shopping. Also, I think it's one of the longest, continuous operating airfields in the country.

Not the first time you've heard this, but, how great these people at Katama are!!!! Had plans to stay at the Winnetu resort next door and flew in this past Friday, June 10th. Expected to have the resort pick us up for a ride and instead, Mike from the FBO had his truck out and was hauling us and our luggage the mile or so down the road and WOULD NOT accept a tip. Had a nice conversation with him and saw him each morning as we ate a wonderful breakfast at the airfield's restaurant. What a great place; can't say enough good things about it. We pilots need to remember to thank these wonderful people at these great airfields that we take advantage of. Can't wait to get back there many times this summer!
