Customs did not answer in the late afternoon but answered promptly at 8:00 am. When we landed two agents met us outside on the ramp, asked a few questions, scanned the plane and then invited us inside to clear. We were not required to unload anything. This could not have been easier or more pleasant! We called Island City to send a tug that towed us to the tie down. This was even easier than Ft. Pierce.

FOR GA Island City is your best bet here. Mike, Adriana, and Rose have always been friendly, and even the maintenance crew was very quick and attentive when I needed a cart start. I would advise you call ahead to notify them of your arrival as they are more than welcoming and will even pick you up in the stretch golf cart if you desire.

Nice little airport, but avoid if you need to clear customs they seem to always be somewhere else. Better off clearing at KTMB.

Landed my Cherokee here. All the comments below are on the mark. Be aware the airport is deserted at night. I unexpectedly arrived after 11 p.m. and the only one around was Search and Rescue and a mechanic working in a hangar who showed us how to get out of the field -- the exit outside the lock fence is not visible due to the FBO undergoing renovation and in temporary quarters. Fuel was 6.62. Conch Farm on the marina in town, north shore, is a big post day drink and eat open eatery. NOTE Kneeboard has the wrong ATIS - it dropped the "7" in 119.675

Island City Flying Service (FBO) did a good job. Security is apparently improved now with 24 hour cameras. Try the sea plane excursion to Dry Tortuga National Park.

2/13/2011 - Island City Flying Service (FBO) provided great service. Line staff awaited our arrival, provided a luggage cart, and called for our cab. Ride into town was $8 per person. Fuel was $6.08 per gallon and tiedown was $15 per night with fuel ($30 without fuel). Old Town Trolley provides efficient means to tour island with daily service. IFR arrivals/departures follow west side of Florida across the Gulf. No over-flights of naval base east of airport.. Watch for radar balloon NE of airport. tvogelpo@eos.net

Take all your stuff out of your aircraft! We had over $6,500 of equipment stolen from the aircraft while parked directly in front of the FBO's main office windows. 4 other aircraft were broken into as well (including broken windows). So if you don't lock your plan evething gets stoel and if you do, the same may happen along with a damaged aircraft. It seems the only solution is to remove everything. They said there are no security cameras, "but they are working on it." Such an expensive FBO needs better sucurity. For the ramp fee of just a few aircrafst they could post a guard if they had to.

Island City Flying Service was very helpful for our first visit to Key West. Tie down was $30.00 per night or $15.00 with a min. 10 gallon fuel purchase. A little expensive but what isn't in Key West. A great place to stay is the Coco Plum Inn at 611 Whitehead Street this place is in the middle of everything. No need to rent a car, just a couple of bikes to get around and that is a big plus for us. The owners of the Coco Plum Inn will make you feel right at home. I had a weather delay leaving and they just told me leave whenever your ready, no extra charge. (www.cocopluminn.com or 877-644-2955) What a great way to celebrate our 17th anniversary.

6/2010 - flew our Cardinal in for a week long fly and dive adventure. Everyone was very accomodating and we were very well treated. Rental car was there waiting for us. Tie downs are well located. Linesmen hauled us and all our gear to the plane when we were leaving. Great experience with this airport.
