We had a similar experience. On a flight from Jacksonville, Fl to Portsmouth, Ohio thee were low ceilings and visibility at Portsmouth so we decided to stop at Big Sandy to give it a chance to improve. Mr. Cox was there, very nice guy, clean restrooms, and restaurant in back, everything we needed. I felt bad we didn't buy any fuel but we wanted to give the business to our home base FBO. If you don't have business in Prestonsburg but need a pit stop or a fuel stop, I recommend the place.

Landed at Big Sandy due to deteriorating weather and was met by Gary Cox, the A/P manager. He fueled our Cessna and suggested we go to the airport resturant right behind the FBO. Had a great meal there. The resturant is open all day and serves a wide selection of food--I highly recommend. Gary let us go upstairs to the pilots lounge to watch TV and sack out. He said my wife and I could spend the night on the comfortable couches if the whether didn't clear. With showers, restrooms, and a resturant out back, this is an ideal A/P to visit. Gary was extremely courteous and friendly. After 2 hours a local helicopter took off and reported sufficient ceiling for us to depart. We hated to leave, but will return on our next trip. What a great FBO--thanks for the hospitality Gary.

12/3/2010 flight following pointed the little yellow Grumman Yankee your way as the weather was deteriorating. Refueling the airplane and myself was a good break waiting on the weather to open a path on to the northeast. As the weather deteriorated that day, the hospitality was good, and even putting the plane into a hangar overnight for a 12/4/2010 AM departure is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!
