Great airport and location. Lots of fun getting in but beware being boxed in by ridges on runway 2 as you turn to right base. White House Inn is the best place to go as Ed is very aviation friendly. We had a B and B breakfast you couldn't believe as he actually had a Hall of Fame member there who autographed baseballs for my 4-yr old twins. Ed will pick you up at the airport. We walked or took a trolley around the town for two days. IFR approach through Oneonta N66 which is on a hill with a localizer, then go under clouds to Cooperstown. Fuel was a bit pricey at 6.25 but as George the manager said, it's basically a service for people who need it. Tie down is $10 per night but no landing fee. Grass runway is in very good condition and level. No landing aids as far as VASI etc.

What a terrific, well maintained grass field, a gem of GA. Definitely one of my more memorable experiences in aviation. Hard to spot initially, I maintained 3000' while searching. Mostly unattended, although there is activity there, especially on a nice sunny fall morning. Cell service is great (5 bars with Verizon). Fuel pumps are not working. Taxi service nearby - 607 267 1834. The car rental arrangement is the way to go if you're spending the day (607 547 9924) but is not available on Sundays. Tie downs ,clean bathrooms available and picnic tables overlooking the field. And thank you Brian and Louisa for your comments, it helped me plan my trip. Safe flying Neil

9/16/2010 There is a new cell phone tower so service is good (at least with Verizon) at the airport. And there is taxi service 607 267 1834 and you can even rent a car at Smith's who will deliver, tel 607 547 9924. Also we stayed at the White House Inn B&B rigth on Chestnut. Ed, the owner, will pick you up and drop you off, as well. Tel 607 547 5054. Leaving IFR with low weather can be a challenge. We decided with a 1500' broken ceiling it was easier to scud run leaving, since we couldn't get our IFR flight plan to be accepted electronically. The airport is very well cared for but totally unattended the weekend we were there (Sept 11-12 2010) Brian and Louisa
