ALX is a regular refueling and leg stretching stop for me and my tribe. Ran into a problem with my aircraft last week that force me to return to the airport after departing. Mike Smith (airport mgr and great guy) came to my rescue. Since thier is no maintenance on the field directly the help had to come from afar (Thank you Ken...). Mike stayed with me throughout the trouble diagnostics with Ken (over the phone), helped me push the aircraft into a hanger to keep me from dying in the mid-day summer Alabama heat and went out of his way to ensure that I got the all of help that I needed. Ended up having to leave my aircraft at ALX while Ken came down to do the repairs. The only major challenge in all of this was that thier are no car rental locations within 35 miles of Alaxander City, which caused me to have to have someone from Birmingham come to get me in order to rent a car at KBHM. When I returned to ALX a week later, Mike was working with one of the big car rental companies to resolve this problem. THANK YOU MIKE, YOU ARE A TRUE GENTLEMAN AND FRIEND TO AVIATION. Will be back.
