The city posted for FBO got only one offer that doesn't meet city requirement of giving all the fuel sales profit to the city and pay $4000 for hanger rental as the city wanted. Looks like long term NO FBO or support at KASD. Just don't fly in and break something, or expect to fly in your A&P with parts.

Slidell posted for FBO with terms of Hanger rental for $4000;/month and city keeps all fuel profits. Looks like there won't be any FBO's or mechanics working here for a while. Very unfortunate for all pilots/crews and mechanics.

It's been almost four months since the idiots at the Slidell airport and city hall kicked out the previous FBO, Slidell Aviation Services Inc., after thirty-five years, and they have not been able to lure someone or another company to open another FBO. Be aware, if anyone out there is looking, don't waste your time or money. I can assure you, you might be able to make a small fortune, but, only if you start out with a large fortune. It's looks like a ghost town now. Maybe identifier should be KSNAFU.

The Louisiana dept of Transportation contacted me this week by official letter and answered some of my questions concerning KASD. They told me that the city of Slidell had the obligation to keep this airport open to the public. They stated the use of fences and gate is common practice and it is up to the city of Slidell to decide where these gates and fences should be. Apparently the City of Slidell does not understand the inconvenience of dragging your luggage 1/4 down a road the hope that a taxi will be there waiting for you. Perhaps the airport will leave the code on the access box so the airport patrons can gain access. But of course this would defeat the purpose of a security gate in the first place. My best advice is to ask the hotel to wait for you at the gate. Maybe after having to wait for passengers to arrive at this gate; the hotels will contact the city council and have it moved to the transit ramp, where it should be.

Please be advised: There is now a Locked Gate approximately ¼ mile from the only road the transit ramp. This gate will be closed and locked from 4PM to 6AM daily. Presently the pass code has only be given to the tenants. If you need to stop at KASD to Eat or Sleep you will need to drag your bags down this road to meet a taxi. It is unknown if they will wait for you there; no parking is available at this gate. Basically KASD is now closed to transient aircraft after 4PM: Please be advised.

I have had a safety incidents at KASD in the last 3 months. Tractors were mowing grass at the field. No one responsible for the airport knew about this activity. The tractors were clear of the approach end when I began my approach. At about 300' with a large tractor about 1000' away from the runway heading away, the tractor immediately turned around and went across the paved end of the runway. I immediately executed a go around as the landing could not be made without impacting the tractor. There was no notification of equipment on the field or on NOTAMS, nor did anyone affiliated with the airport know about the equipment. (Uncontrolled equipment on airport property). In a pilots meeting I covered this with all the pilots and airport officials. They admitted to not knowing about the equipment and would make the pilot responsible to miss any equipement at the airport by putting it in NOTAMS. It is still not in NOTAMS and there is no procedure that has been reviewed with pilots to insure this doesn't happen again. All people working on airport property should have permission and a introduction training how to work around parked, taxing, and flying aircraft. I have no confidence this has happened and no confidence ground equipement will not damage an aircraft.. The FAA has been reported that there has been deer feeders on the departure end of RW 36. The city has denied this. Photos have been sent to the FAA as proof of this activity. At the pilots meeting it was discussed that an aircraft doing a night landing had struck an animal on landing with no damage to the aircraft. I have no further details on the aircraft incident but photos prove there was a baited deer attractor on the runway. The airport should have known about this and prevented both of these events from happening. Properly trained qualifed personnal can prevent these issues.

Update. Fuel is now available after hrs with no additional charge at self service for (currently $5.17 gal LL100). New item is there is NOW a crew car, (nice one) for the first time since I have been flying here. There is also a nose wheel tug available if you have the side notches on the strut. A smooth strut with no tug points can't be towed yet.

UPDATE TO KASD. Fuel is NOT available after 4 PM and the self service pumps are turned off UFN. If you land and need fuel you will have to call in after hrs support for $30/hr to have them turn the pumps on. KASD hopes to have the self service back up but doesn' t know and won't say when.

I can testify that the idiots who now run the airport and fueling operations aren't pilots or user friendly. I would strongley urge all aviators boycott KASD. This was indeed a hostile takeover by local government. Since Wednesday late afternoon, three aircraft have landed and were unable to be serviced with jet-a. As I write this, there is no av-gas available, and, they cannot figure how to fill their mobile jet-a, truck from their storage tanker truck. What goes around comes around. They are trying to make a small fortune with a large fortune, your tax dollars at work.

Slidell Aviation, who provided fuel for decades at KASD no longer runs fuel services. The City of Slidell has taken over fuel services and raised fuel fee rates. Will the same level of service be provided for 24 hrs???
