I've flown into KBXM a couple of times to work per diem shifts in the ER at Midcoast Hospital which is only about 5 minutes from the field. On both occasions, first last summer and then again last weekend, the service at Flightlevel Aviation was outstanding. Last summer I arrived in a downpour and the line staff opened up the doors on their massive old Navy hangar and came out a pulled me into the hangar right after I shut the engine down. Last weekend they again met me on the ramp, provided me with transportation to the hospital, and the plane was topped off and ready to go when I returned later that evening. Great service at an airport that is potentially a great resource for the Midcoast Maine region. They ILS and GPS approaches now up and running. AWOS is active now also, you key your mike slowly twice on the CTAF frequency to get it. You can pick up your clearance by calling Portland Approach directly at 207-775-0602 x 154.

Stopped there for a few hours yesterday. Interesting place; feels like a end-of-days type movie with the abandoned military complex look. Unfortunately, I did not have time to see much of the base itself (not sure how much is open). Heads up on bird activity; I passed three large groups (25+) of birds when leaving yesterday afternoon; twice on the taxiway from the FBO towards approach end of 1R, another right underneath me smack in the middle of 1R while on upwind. It was very quiet yesterday, though; there might be fewer standing groups of birds with more air traffic.

Both runway 1L and 1R have right hand traffic patterns (and vice versa for 19R and 19L). Is this correct? When it was a Naval Air Station the runways had patterns away from each other. Are both runways open?

The Airport is open to GA traffic as of April 2, 2011. Do not be discouraged by the statements above and and the airport satellilte view of crossed out runways. The UNICOM frequency is 122.725 and call sign "Brunswick Exec". After such a long time in the making it is pretty pathetic that the Airport is listed as permanently closed. They should get new airport mgmt.

Brunswick Executive Airport is now open to the public as a GA Airport as of 4/2/2011. There will be a first annual International Fly-in on June 4th of 2011.
