We also used George and his golf carts, excellent service. We ate breakfast at the Rusty Rim, because Annies was closed. The food was very good and the view was fantastic! Great little getaway and a nice walk.

This a great small airport that provide somewhat of a challenge..like landing on a large aircraft carrier. If you miscalculate, you are going to get wet. Taking off to the west is better way, if wind permits. I called George Carts 352-543-5090 for transportation..he came to the airport, picked us up and even helped tow us out of the sand strip between RW and what I thought was a taxi way (Wrong) taxi back to the west end for cross over and parking. As for food, Tony's place was recommended but was full (indication food is good) so we went to Rusty Rim on Dock St. Food was marginal and I don't recommend it. When you make your approach call, Judi's taxi will call you back to see if you want transportation. Her charge is $5/person each way..George's cart is a much better deal and George is a great guy. This is a very scenic small town and I have no doubt we'll return next year. Highly recommend.

Yesterday we flew to Cedar Key. Upon arrival, we rented a Golf Cart from George at the Gulf Cart Company (352-543-5090) who picked us up at the airport, in order to explore this rather widespread village. The rental process itself is relatively seamless - in addition to the cart, one also receives a (rather poor quality) photocopy of the town map, as well as the information, that one must not drive the cart onto State Road 24 for locals also known as D street, which starts about three miles from the airfield. Upon travelling through the town, we eventually turned into Street D, which features a number of outlets renting golf carts and has poor signposting. Upon passing a petrol station, the road widened, and we were unsure whether we had unintentionally driven onto SR 24, given that there is signposting to this extent. Upon reaching a bridge, we found the first sign indicating that the road we were on had turned into the SR 24. Whilst in the process of turning around and returning to the "non-SR 24" part of the road, we were stopped and fined by a police car (a ticket of $ 50), which made us turn into a side road, where golf carts were permitted. Apart from the obvious irritation that a low-quality town plan and poor signposting had resulted in a fine, we found it even more irritating that, upon returning to the street we were allowed to use, we found the police car parked at aforementioned gas station, seemingly waiting for further 'customers'.

We flew in to Cedar Key today to spend a few hours and have lunch. We arranged with George at the Gulf Cart Company (352-543-5090) to rent a golf cart. We called George as soon as we landed and he was there to pick us up by the time we got the airplane secured. George gave us a bit of Cedar Key history and then turned us loose with the cart. We toured all over the island and visited the State museum. $2 entry fee for a very nice little museum. There is another small museum in town that George told us about, but it was closed today. We then had lunch at the Rusty Rim on Dock Street. An hour or so of shopping after that and it was time to go. George took us back to the airport. When we called in on the CTAF on arrival, the taxi lady asked us if we needed transportation, so she is still operating if the golf cart does not appeal to you. Nice little spot and we plan on returning.

This was our second visit to Cedar Key. What a great little town. We spent two days here and had a wonderful time. Kayaked over to Atsena Otie Island for a few hours and checked out the remains of the old mill and cemetary. We ate at several resturants in town and had great service and food at all of them. The clam chowder at Tony's was fantastic. Judy runs the local taxi and will usually answer on 122.9 for a ride in to town from the airport.
