I regularly fly between Worcester MA and Kissimmee FL. Having stopped at many fields to refuel en-route, KECG has become my favorite stop. I like the benefit of a controlled but not too busy field and there is always something interesting to see on the Guard ramp or at the nearby blimp facility. The FBO staff, especially Wendy, are incredibly friendly and helpful. How a few poor markings, a burned out sign and a clearly temporary facility can make this field "not GA friendly" is a mystery to me!

This is in reponse to the comment that "this airport is not GA friendly". In the interests of full disclosure, I am a member of the airport board. The civilian airport is located on the opposite side of the field from the Coast Guard air station. The airfiled, control tower, and taxiways are controlled and maintained by the Coast Guard, and they are happy to give progressive taxi instructions if the pilot asks. The "trailer in the corner of the field" is the temporary FBO facility while we spend a million dollars renovating the GA terminal and parking lot. During the rehab, our lighted canopy was taken down. The GA terminal will reopen at the end of October. We strive to make ECG friendly to GA pilots. We have a great A&P, computerized weather, courtesy car, a restaurant on the field open for breakfast and lunch Mon-Fri, and a pilot lounge with a big screen and snooze room. Elizabeth City State University is now operating their flight training department here. We host Young Eagles on a regular basis. My wife and I flew down beginning of July. We actually wanted to fly into Currituck (KONX) but it was closed for taxiway repairs and no rental car service so we tried KECG. Ramp accommodations were great, the fee was waved with our purchase of fuel and the renal car was waiting and ready to go. We will be back before winter.
