On Saturday, July 23, 2011, late afternoon, there were no signs of life at ESF, not an aircraft in sight, but there may have been something in a hangar. Two Jet A fuel trucks were on the ramp, but no AvGas/100LL truck was visible. About 4 vehicles were parked in the vicinity of the old terminal, and the security officer shack was open but access to the vending machines and restrooms in the building was locked from the street. The phone number for ESF call forwards to AEX Million Air FBO and we were advised there was a $100 fueler call-out fee. All signage and vehicles at ESF now appear to support only Louisiana National Guard and nearby Camp Beauregard. The rotating beacon was operating after dark. Some signs indicated a cafe may have recently been open for business in the terminal, perhaps in support of the military activity Monday through Friday. It sure is not the same place it was 25 years ago.
