Shannon is one of the very few private public use airports in Virginia. This is the most convenient airport if you are going to Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania or University of Mary Washington. Runway is in excellent condition. There is a very active flight school located on the field (JLS Aviation) so be cautious of student pilots. If landing on RWY 24 you must back taxi to the ramp, there are no taxiways. The staff is very friendly and will give you an airport advisory if requested on UNICOM. Make sure you check out their weather rock in the FBO, it is very unique.

Rip-off. Just last week doubled tiedown fee to $10 a night. Not waived with fuel purchase even $300 worth Field closed at night to fixed wing because of trees has been that way for almost 2 years. Airport slowly falling apart. Go 7 miles north to Stafford (RMN) for cheaper full-serve fuel and tiedowns waived with fuel purchase. The independently owned flight school here (JLS Aviation) is fantastic in my experience.

Rwy/ramp in good condtion. No taxiways, very limited parking on ramp for transit aircraft against rwy. Community arpt with friendly locals who love to chat about flying. Unicom answered with Wx info. Arpt closed at night.
