I'm a corporate, cessna 414 pilot and flew in to GYY last week for a two day stay. Usually, I'm not one to complain but to be honest, the service at Gary Jet Center was very weak and chaotic. The day after our arrival I was at the airport getting our plane ready for an early departure. I placed a written fuel order with the desk and told her I would call the next morning an hour before we would be there. They barely had time to take my order because 4 or 5 of the line personel were frantically looking for a customer's car keys that another employee had lost track of. It was absolute chaos. The next morning, I did call 1-1/2 hours prior to arrival and was informed that they hadn't fueled the plane but would before we got there. When we got there, no one knew about the fuel order so, for the 3rd time, I requested that the airplane be pulled out of the hangar and fueled. It was another 30 minutes before the plane was pulled outside. While it sat out on the ramp for another 45 minutes waiting to be fueled, a snow storm came in and dumped about 2-1/2" of snow on our warm airplane. Also, I had to give the detailed fuel order to the line guys (4th time) who asked me," is that Jet A or 100LL?" WOW!! They fueled the plane, snapped the caps back on with 2 of the push-down tabs turned more than 90 degrees to the side. I had to get them to pull the plane back in the hangar for an hout to thaw the ice off of it. We lost about 3 hours due to this "circus". On a regular basis, I fly in to FBO's all over the eastern half of the US and this experience was, without a doubt, the worst I have ever seen. One positive note: On the night of arrival, I was parked by a gentleman named Dennis. I also dealt with him on day two, Dennis was the only person at the Jet Center who seemed to know what he was doing. He was curtious and helpful. Would I use the Gary Jet Center again? Probably not..

I fly into GYY 20 times a year because I have a second home in Downtown Chicago. The staff is excellent and very friendly. They are very attentive to details and always have my plane fueled and ready to go when I return. The drive into downtown Chicago is easy because the airport is located next to the Skyway Toll Road. They tend to keep employees so its easy to get to know the staff. They really go out of their way to provide excellent service.
