Visited HIO on July 20 - 23, 2012 and used Hillsboro Aviation for FBO services. It was easy to find, but a call ahead to check in and let them know you are coming would be a good idea. I was met on the ramp with two folks to help steer me in, and they took good care of my plane. Hillsboro Aviation is an active flight school, and it did not appear to me that their FBO work is their main thing. However, everyone was nice and attempted to be helpful. The airport was in good shape, and the tower staff polite (I had a TFR question on departure, and got a quick answer). The airport is nearby to Portland International. I flew in IFR and had an easy transition to HIO from PDX approach. We departed VFR and it was no problem staying out of PDX airspace (other than the TFR thing). Beautiful place. Nice airport. Busy airspace, but HIO was very manageable class D just outside of PDX class C.
