Dropped in on VectAir (co-located with AirVenture) on a Friday afternoon with an alternator light. The maintenance shop was backed up with another transient aircraft problem and two downed flight school birds. Despite a weekend looming with a heavy training schedule, they took time out to completely examine my electrical system, including a ground run-up. I flew a local check flight and verified the problem did not repeat and was ready to go by late afternoon. As it had been a long day and I had 4hrs of flying ahead of me, I elected to stay the night. AirVenture got me hooked up with the Fairfield inn and transportation to the hotel. I then got an invitation to tag along for a local high school football game. Southern hospitality at its best.

I fly out of KOLV on a daily/weekly business, AirVenture is a friendly place to rent a plane from or to talk to more experinced local pilots if you need help avoiding Class B airspace or just help with flying through crowded airspace. The tower is very professional and forgiving, if you need help, speak up. Metro Aviation will give you fuel promptly if you call them, usually takes 5-10 minutes, (call them at the beginning of your preflight, so that you don't have to wait on fuel.) Notes, When departing runway 18 (Usually active for this airport) watch the comm tower off your left wing, stay away from it till your past it, then turn to 90* if tower tells you to. Be ready to tune Memphis Departure immediately.
