I visited the airport for the first time this past Saturday and the controllers were very accomodating and assisted me in taxing. Riverside Premium services had a car waiting for me and were very polite and eager to assist. I wish the gates were open after 5:00 pm for returning the the vehicle on the ramp and un-loading but I made it before then so no worries but it will be nice if they have a combination to get in after hours.

I have been flying into RAL for 25 years and I was based there for 10 years. The tower operation is really outstanding, and any pilot who asks for assistance either in the air or on the ground receives correct, appropriate and timely attention. Safely navigating through RAL Class C is enhanced by the fact that the tower has radar capability. 100LL is available 24/7. Maintenance One aircraft maintenance personnel are knowledgeable and competent mechanics. The passenger terminal is spacious and comfortable; but the last I knew, it was not open on Sundays or at night. Transient parking in front of the terminal can be limited. Flight planning facilities at the terminal are sub-standard. You might want to check with airport personnel if you intend to park overnight or need a first class flight planning room.. ...they might have established some new facilities since I last needed such services there. Finally D & D Cafe' located at the terminal is a favorite with the locals, including pilots and nearby residents.

Went up from CRQ for my first solo x-country. The airport wa, well, hot. About 100 F or 38 C. I had some issues finding the transient ramp because its not noted on the taxi diagram nor posted on the field. I did not have time to eat but I did enjoy the air conditioning. My only other complaint, besides the heat, was the ground controller. I asked him to set up VFR Flight Following back to CRQ and did not sound very happy about it. I was happy to get out of there after that. But all in all, I give the airport 7.5/10.
