If you are arriving into Sedona from the north be prepared for a steep descent to make the airport pattern altitude, and for some of the most spectacular rock scenery I've ever seen below my plane! Rwy 3 is the preferred calm wind runway for landing, plus it's easier to land on the uphill slope. The whole area is noise sensitive, so climb to 6,500 or higher as soon as you can on take off. We stayed at the Sky Ranch, which is literally within walking distance of the FBO. It's very spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful garden overlook from which to see the whole town, and the red rock scenery. Definitely eat at the Mesa Grill; it won't disappoint!

If you read the A/FD it clearly states 1.8% up NE.

Can anyone verify if CAMUSMD is correct? If what he says is correct then runway 3 and runway 21 have a 3.14% grade up and down respectively (equivalent to a 1.8 degrees up and down respectively) . The A/FD states its a 1.8% grade. If its 1.8 degrees instead of the stated 1.8% grade then they are off by quite a bit. Thats a fairly big difference, especially when it gets hot.

Visited KSEZ for the first time this week. Made the rooky mistake of coming in too high on approach to 21, mainly because I was paranoid about the infamous downdrafts. Landing was not pretty but the scenery sure was! Restaurant was good, and we were treated well by the FBO.

Wife and I flew in from the L.A. area yesterday just to try the new restaurant (Mesa Grill). We were not disappointed. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. Bought gas at Red Rock Aviation: friendly service and much better prices for the gas than we are used to in L.A. (plus 20 cents/gallon discount for cash).

Runway 3 and runway 21s slope is 1.8 degrees up and down, respectively, and not 1.8 percent.

Stay slightly above glidepath on the PAPI (White, Pink, RED,RED) when gusty or uncomfortable winds exist. Enjoy the USS Arizona II !
