Flew in this morning to pick up a couple dogs for Pilots N Paws. Not a soul around anywhere, FBO building locked. Made the dog transfer, peed in the woods, and left. No real reason to stop here, they don't sell fuel, they don't service aircraft, it just happened to be the closest airport to the animal shelter releasing the dogs. This 3000 ft strip is carved out of the middle of heavy woods. We flew the RNAV approach out of necessity, since it was raining and cloudy. I imagine it would be difficult to find even in good VFR conditions.

Most of you will probably never fly to Summersville WV. It's a small privately owned airport outside a small mountain town. The owners told me that they don't have many transient aircraft. The traffic volume is so low that it is no longer profitable to keep 100LL in the tanks. But if you do have occasion to go, you will meet some of the nicest folks you have ever come across. The Rader family has owned the airport for ages. They loaned me their car and gave me directions. I told Mary Rader about my grandchildren and she told me about hers. Jerry Rader told me how to get out and call ATC after I was airborne. Just a very pleasant experience. I was disappointed that I couldn't spend any money with them! (I did fill their truck with gas.)
