I purchased a Cessna in California and was flying it back home up north, I ran into a problem with the battery discharging and stopped in Tracy. Despite the problems I had with the airplane, I really enjoyed stopping at this airport. The County keeps the cost of 100LL very affordable, I only paid $4.15/gallon when most other stops on my trip were $4.60-5.30! Also, the maintenance crew at SkyView were incredible about taking a look at my airplane so I could get back in flight. They swapped out the battery and troubleshot the alternator and fixed a few other small issues quickly. They offered to take me to lunch in town and had a comfortable lounge and a park next to the FBO. With the low cost of fuel there was a steady stream of traffic coming in including Pipers, Pitts, and Experimentals.... this is what a general aviation airport is supposed to be like: active, fun, affordable, and full of friendly people. On a side note, with just a few hours exposure to the guys at SkyView I highly recommend their maintenance shop. He said they have been flooded by work coming in from other shops that did "annual inspections" which left multiple problems. Remember, you can pay now or pay later, dont take a risk on your life by getting a shady cheap annual. The director of maintenance there works on Reno race planes and warbirds and is very serious about quality of work. However, even with their priority service to get me back in the air with an unscheduled stop they were incredibly reasonable in their pricing. I wish this airport were closer to my home. Great job to the county's management team and the people at SkyView!
