The city is improving the airport and just a few months after starting the project the terminal looks great. I haven't been there in a couple months so I don't know how it looks now, but I hope to return soon to continue flight training with Klaus from Airlink.

Great airport, great alternative for this summer due to construction at KAUG, safer too if you loose an engine in the pattern; fields not shopping malls, gravel pits and hill sides. Staff are great. Agree, 5/23 not for low time pilots in gusty winds.

Airport staff is excellent. They will do most anything possible to help you out. Full service fuel is the lowest priced in the area. 14/32 still not worked on. The city has said it will be done this summer. But, we have heard that before. For the light plane pilot be sure to check winds before coming. In the winter and fall 32 is badly needed, Without it the crosswind on 5/23 is not for low time folks.

I fly into WVL twice per year (Spring and Fall) for a lakeside getaway with three Coast Guard friends. I was there this past weekend. I was grateful for $5.30 AVGAS and courteous service by the city employee on duty. Crosswinds are a problem at WVL with 14/32 notamed out of service. I delayed my departure a fifteen minutes or so until the gusts settled down. Last fall's arrival was also delayed waiting for winds to abate. But, I am happy that the city of Waterville keeps the operation going. The airport is served by an ILS to 5; several GPS approaches and you can get your clearnace on the ground from Portland approach. The main countyside around WVL is always a delight to behold.

This is my home base airport from May till October. Runway 14/32 is closed and hopefully will reopen with new pavement, but narrower next year. No place on a windy day if winds are hard out of the west or northwest. Low time pilots or students need to check the winds carefully before heading to WVL; especially in the winter. FBO is now run by the city. The employees work hard to please and are very accomodating.
