Visited 3/15/13 Assaggio [(760) 767-3388] is a nice "Ristorante Italiano" right on the field. Had a flat tire in the runup area just before takeoff. Within one or two minutes of stopping the engine Bret Helm arrived. He is the assistant airport manager and also an A&E mechanic. He immediately started working and he stayed with us until he had the tire fixed. His charge was very reasonable.

Flew my stepdad and girlfriend here about a week ago and it was quite enjoyable. We flew in a 172R from Palomar Airport just under 50nm west of Borrego. We ate at the italian place on the field and I was pleasently surprised on how good it was. My girlfriend got the french dip and my stepdad and I both got the burger. We were all very satisfied. Go and eat if you find yourself in Borrego. Also, the Unicom staff are very nice. Vicki wasnt there that day, but louise was. SUPER nice. Long story short, this airport was a lot of fun to go to.

Even though there's an Italian restaurant on the field, they have burgers and great French dip sandwiches at lunch. Vicky at the airport office is really helpful, and they have a couple of cars to rent (clunkers, but so what!). It's a surprisingly scenic place to visit, although it seems like there's nothing but open desert. Great in the Springtime. Call them for their Sky Tour booklet. An unusual and highly recommended day or overnight trip.

My daughter, home for the Thanksgiving day holiday, wanted to fly here, so we visited here the day after Thanksgiving. Sure wish the upper deck was open - it would have been a perfect day up there for a burger and diet coke. As it was, we were one of two tables indoors for lunch in this empty 40 table restaurant with very mediocre Italian fare. Beautiful outdoors, bland and boring indoors.
