I concur that L45 is a better alternate than Meadows Field. The Rocket Shop Cafe is at the very opposite end from the fuel station beyond the hangers. After fueling, I have to ask around for direction to the cafe (-sorry, no progressive available). During my visit, food at the cafe was good; the service was a bit slower --- just use it to flight plan your next leg.

A very GA friendly airport. The folks at Kern Charter are very nice and helpful. Fuel prices are very reasonable, the Rocket Shop cafe atthe north end of the field is not half bad, and there is no problem parking overnight. This is a great alternative to Meadows as it's much closer to everything Bakersfield.

Interesting to find that various controllers in the valley weren't familiar with L45 and seemed almost surprised we'd want to go to Bakersfield Muni ("you want to go where?") - quite funny. Rocket Shop cafe was fine - service took rather a while but not offensively so, they were busy, food was good, prices reasonable. Parking was OK, if you're parking for any length of time it might be an idea to bring your own tie-downs, there appear to be bits missing in the few spots that I checked. Very quiet airport, everybody seemed to sensibly fly the pattern (no straight ins while we were coming in) which was nice. Gas price was good, and the people we bumped into friendly. Recommended for a stop. Security seems very low, so I don't know about overnight parking there...
