Here is an update based on my recent trip back to Agua Caliente. The hike to the hot springs is over a mile. You can cut some of that off by shortcutting through the desert, but you have to know where you are going. As it is, you cross highway S2, then down a short trail to the camp access road. Turn right and go about ½ mile. There is a store there with maps and friendly folks. Continue past the store, past the ranger station, and eventually the road will take you to the hot springs about ½+ mile further. There is some debate as to whether or not you have to pay the day-use fee ($5) if you don't have a car. I paid it to get the free map and free advice from the ranger. The campground and the hot springs are worth the trip, IMO. One of these trips I plan to get one of the camp spaces and spend the night. Either way, it is a fun destination. There are a number of tie-downs available. Although the runway is in fine shape, the tie-downs are not. Some have chains missing and others have chains but no clips. There are also no chocks available so plan accordingly. Finally, although I am generally against straight-in approaches, it is the only one that makes sense into this airport. Just line up on 29 and you will have no problems. The runway is plenty long, but you may want to think about short-field techniques as there is often a light tailwind. Taking off is almost always on 11 unless you are a very brave and adventurous pilot.
