Beware the Republic of Santa Monica has many rules about using their airport that are not published in the AFD. I received a "compliance" letter from the airport director about their voluntary rules concerning arrivals after arriving 7 minutes prior to 8am on a Saturday. Although there are restrictions published in the AFD concerning overnight departures, there are no FAA published restrictions on arrivals. The airport management does not make visiting pilots spending money at SMO businesses feel very welcome.

Although I applaud your decision to reduce night take off & landings, Why do people move to an area that is near an airport if. They don't want to hear airplanes???

Santa Monica Airport charges a landing fee for ALL aircraft and will surprise you with an invoice later in the mail. I have only been able to find information on this landing fee on the www.santamonicaairport.org web site. I don't mind if I am informed of a charge and allowed to make a decision, but I looked at the airport information on both AOPA and AirNav before the flight and found NO mention of a landing fee.
