If you're flying a C-17 or C-5, you definitely can make it into TPF (one did on 7/22/12) - just use the longer runway!

I was able to complete my PPL at Atlas Aviation in about 2 month total. Chris McDonald was the CFI and he really knows what he is doing. If you are looking for flight training or just wanting to get checked out ask for "Chris Mac." The front desk staff are all really friendly. I checked out 3 other FBOs before I looked at Atlas and the Atlas people seemed to know what they are doing more than any other place in Tampa. The rental equipment is all new and you will never rent anything older than 2001. Just try and find a rental 172 anywhere else in the area that was made before 1970-something. TPF is about 30mi further than the next closest GA airport but the people and equipment make the drive worth while.

I recently spent the night in Tampa and stopped at TPF. The folks at Atlas Aviation could not have been better, their service was great and the staff was very friendly. Very interesting place to fly into with good views of down town Tampa and the ship channel. If you are VFR and not familiar with the area I suggest getting Class B service into TPF because it is next to MacDill and the airspace is complicated. ATC has easy procedures for incoming or outgoing routes over Tampa International.

Great airport. Flew there today and stopped at Atlas Aviation. I was marshalled in and greeted in a friendly manner. I went for a walk and sat on the beach near the airport for a while. Be aware of noise abatement procedures over the neighborhood to the West of the field. I'll be flying back to TPF.

I really enjoy this airport; the staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I finished my PPL here in late 2009 when winter weather in my home base interrupted my training. I have twice since visited and rented aircraft at Atlas Aviation at KTPF for local flying in FLA. The instructors, the flight line team, and the admin team all provided wonderful service. Also, the views are quite stunning. Would highly recommend it.

The airspace is complicated around this beautifully situated airport. I found it best to make my approach from the east. The staff were extremely responsive and helpful. Fuel prices are the best but the service and FBO building are above average. This was my first approach over the ocean - KTPF has an incredible setting and backdrop near downtown Tampa.

Very scenic and always friendly and knowlegable staff. Closest airport to downtown Tampa with a crew car. Best small airport in Florida!!
