Just flew there on Thanksgiving morning. There appear to be some transportation options. The first is the bus service mentioned about (comes about every 2 hours). The second is a company with a van that will give you a ride. Their phone number is posted on the pay phone just outside the office door. The third is the tour company, which will pick you up if you're going on a battlefield tour. The fourth is a rental car agency. Call the office and they'll give you the numbers to arrange with the service of your choice. Flying over the battlefield was a high point. Have to stay at 2000 ft AGL, but you can see plenty from there. I actually flew in from the south and around the west side, then landed. On departure, flew to the north and around the east side. Got some great pictures. It seems like such a small area for such an important battle.

Deserted.....never saw a human upon arrival or departure. Just a deer in the field. No taxi service in all of Gettysburg. We had to hitchhike into town with luggage in tow (Not a great lesson for a teenager). If you are looking to start a business, a taxi service might be successful as Gettysburg is a very pretty town with lots of stuff going on. A great college visit...we may return....this time with our folding bikes.

I was at W05 the weekend of 8/22/10. You are unable to buy fuel there unless you have a "membership card". They do have a self-serve fuel pump but the pump won't activate unless you swipe the membership card first. The airport was unattended all weekend so my return leg home necessitated an additional stop for fuel. That added an extra half hour to my two hour trip. Too bad they just don't allow transient pilots to buy fuel there.
