AOPA Air Safety Foundation
Your Legacy in General Aviation
Planned Giving—GA's
Safe Future
"I have included the AOPA
Air Safety Foundation in my will
because GA has given me so much.
This is the way I can give back — and
ensure the future of general aviation." S.C.H.
You, too, can provide for your loved-ones, possibly reduce your estate tax, and leave a vital legacy for general aviation through a bequest or planned gift to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation.
There are a number of ways you can accomplish this through your estate. By providing for the AOPA Air Safety Foundation now, you are the one to determine how your estate is handled. And remember, Uncle Sam will not invest your hard-earned money in general aviation's future, but you can!
Please let the AOPA Air Safety Foundation know if you have made such plans. We would like to recognize your leadership for GA's future.

Gifts Through Your Will
One of the best ways to save on federal estate taxes is to provide for a charitable bequest in your will. Tax laws favor those who are charitably inclined. A bequest in your will, benefiting ASF, is deductible for federal estate tax purposes.
Examples of wording that can be included in your will:
Bequest (Outright)
"I give, devise, and bequeath to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation the sum of ______ dollars (and/or the following described property: ________) to be used for the organization's purposes."
Bequest of Residuary Estate
"All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, including both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated, which I may own or have the right to dispose of at the time of my decease, I give, devise, and bequeath to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation, to be used for the organization's purposes."
Bequest of Percentage of Residuary Estate
"All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, including both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated, which I may own or have the right to dispose of at the time of my decease, I give, devise, and bequeath as follows: (1) To the AOPA Air Safety Foundation ____ percent to be used for the organization's purposes."
Contingent Bequest
"In the case of the failure or lapse of any legacy or devise herein such that the property so bequeathed or devised would otherwise pass by intestacy (absence of a will), I give, devise, and bequeath any such failed or lapse legacy or devise to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation, to be used for its purposes."
Gifts of Appreciated Stock
If you contribute long-term appreciated stock to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation, you get a triple benefit: a charitable deduction for the present fair market value; no capital gains tax on the appreciation; and removal of asset from estate tax calculation.
Gifts of Real Estate
You may wish to donate your primary residence, vacation home, or farm through your will, but deeding it to ASF now offers some benefits. You get a charitable deduction and save taxes. Your deduction depends primarily on your age and the value of your property.
Gifts of Life Insurance
ASF can be designated as the beneficiary of the policy, either designated or by virtue of policy ownership. At the time of your death, your estate would receive a charitable deduction when the proceeds of the policy are paid to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation.
Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
An annuity trust provides the life income beneficiary a fixed dollar amount, rather than a fixed percentage of the assets of the trust. This form of trust is appropriate for those who prefer a fixed annual income, unaffected by the stock market, interest rates, or other environmental factors.
Charitable Remainder Unitrust
This type of gift allows you to make a substantial gift to ASF and yet continue to receive income from the assets contributed. With the unitrust, you annually receive a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trusts' assets, as those assets are revalued annually.
