FAA Finds Self-Certification Process Effective for LSA

The FAA has completed 23 of 29 planned assessments of light sport aircraft (LSA) manufacturers, and said it is pleased with the compliance. An FAA mandate allowed LSA manufacturers to self-certify their airplanes, and John Colomy, acting manager of FAA's Small Aircraft Division, said their compliance is equal to that of commercial aircraft manufacturers. Last summer, the FAA announced it would assess 29 random LSA manufacturers to check on their applications of ASTM standards.
