Instructor Propels Students Through Pilot School
By Kristin Morin
Denver area helicopter pilot instructor Clay Voss, who grew up near offshore oil projects in Texas that brought lots of helicopters to the nearby skies, says he is living his childhood dream of being a helicopter pilot. "Everybody's got that 'when I grow up I want to be' thing and mine was flying helicopters," says Voss, an instructor with Elite Helicopter Services in the Denver south suburb of Englewood who flies out of nearby Centennial Airport. Voss says that he tends to take prospective students up in the company's Schweitzer 300C helicopter on their first day to see if helicopter flying is a good fit for them, and it often is: "Helicopters are addicting. When people come out and fly, we usually see them again."
