A Sign of a Good Time

The 16th annual Deaf Pilots Association (DPA) Fly-In 2009 will be held at Wisconsin’s Manitowoc County Airport from July 30 through Aug. 6. “This is a great opportunity and a great place for deaf pilots to get together,” says Lisa Callsen of Manitowoc, who organized the event with her husband Carl, who is deaf. Deaf pilots from Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, and California have committed to the fly-in. “My experiences from when we’ve gathered is we’re talking about airplanes, technology, the different kinds of weather we’ve flown in, and the great memories,” says Carl Callsen, who will receive his pilot’s license upon his completion of the written exam.
