Summit brings the excitement of aviation to Tampa
By AOPA ePublishing Staff
AOPA Aviation Summit, formerly known as AOPA Expo, is an annual event that draws aviation enthusiasts, pilots, and non-pilots by the thousands. Summit will be held at the Tampa Convention Center, at 33 S. Franklin St. in Tampa, Fla., from Nov. 5 to 7. The event is a celebration of all facets of aviation—from flight simulators and radio-controlled model airplanes to general aviation aircraft in all forms.
There will be hundreds of exhibitors showcasing aircraft, aviation gear, high-tech gadgets, and other products. There will be educational seminars and forums for pilots and student pilots, on safety, maintaining an aircraft, medical issues, and more. Others may enjoy forum topics designed for everyone, which will focus on learning to fly, becoming a more at-ease airplane passenger, aviation careers, fly-in destinations, and women leaders in aviation.
Summit’s Airportfest, held at nearby Peter O. Knight Airport, will feature aircraft displays and exhibits, and will be accessible via a short shuttle or ferry ride from the convention center. Be sure to check out AOPA's Let's Go Flying Cirrus SR22 2009 Sweepstakes airplane, which will be on display. At the AOPA Learn to Fly tent, take a spin in a flight simulator, and if you've yet to experience flying in a small airplane, sign up for a discounted introductory flight for only $70.
In addition to the regular schedule of events, you can purchase tickets for Summit’s social events, which include the GA at the Movies Luncheon and the Florida Aquarium Reception.
Regular admission to Summit is $50 per day, which includes access to the exhibit hall and all forums. Full-time high school and college students may present their valid student ID for admission at a reduced rate of $10 per day. Children under 15 years of age may attend at no cost; however, ticket charges for social events apply to children ages 6 to 14. For additional information, or to register, visit the Web page.
