Garmin's GDL 88 series approved for Part 23 aircraft
Garmin has received FAA approval to install its GDL 88 series ADS-B equipment on most FAA Part 23 aircraft.
The GDL 88 provides subscription-free weather and traffic and carries a retail price of $3,995. Its information can be displayed on Garmin products such as the GTN 750, and it communicates with some Garmin transponders so that no additional control panels are required.
The “dual link” GDL 88 broadcasts its position on the 978 MHz Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) frequency and receives datalink on both the UAT and 1090 MHz frequency bands.
Garmin has also received FAA approval for a software upgrade for its GTN series that includes support for weather radar and cross fill with the GNS 430W/530W series.
