OSHKOSH, July 25 Your AOPA Sweepstakes Waco UPF-7 isn't together yet, but Rare Aircraft of Owatonna, Minnesota, provided a stand-in, nearly identical to the one that will be given away in January 2004, at its EAA AirVenture display this week. Spectators marveled at the beauty of the 1941 open-cockpit biplane trainer. The aircraft took Runner Up in its category during EAA aircraft judging this year. The AOPA aircraft was built in 1940. It will see rapid progress in August, now that the move of the Rare Aircraft workshop from Faribault to Owatonna, Minnesota, has been completed. The first action will be to cover the wings. Then internal plumbing and wiring will be completed in the fuselage before it is covered with Ceconite. The aircraft should fly in September. Look for it at AOPA Expo in October.
