AOPA Waco headed to Oshkosh
July 15 Yes, AOPA's sweepstakes Waco UPF-7 will be at the EAA AirVenture 2003 in Oshkosh at the end of the month. The current plans are that it will start its journey July 25, but the Waco needs calm winds along with the usual weather needs. So it could leave the 25th, 26th, or 27th, depending on wind conditions along the route from Frederick, Maryland, the AOPA headquarters, to Oshkosh. The trainer biplane must arrive by the 28th to be ready for the big show that starts July 29 and runs through Aug. 4. After Oshkosh the aircraft will return to Rare Aircraft in Owatonna, Minnesota, for some minor tweaking. Then it will return to Frederick in central Maryland via Dayton, where it will pay a visit to members of the Waco Historical Society. AOPA President Phil Boyer will also be there to receive an honor from the society. Look for "your" airplane (hope you win) at Oshkosh!
