AOPA opposes DLS runway drag strip plan
June 10, 2004 AOPA is preparing formal comments opposing a plan to permanently close one of the runways at Columbia Gorge Regional Airport (DLS) and turn it into a drag strip. The FAA is reviewing the airport authority's proposal and is soliciting comments. "The drag strip would necessarily impact at least one of the two intersecting runways, while race facilities would likely impact FAA-mandated protected areas," said AOPA Vice President of Regional Affairs Roger Cohen. Comments may be filed until July 15, 2004, at Seattle Airports District Office (ADO); SEA-641; 1601 Lind Ave. SW; Renton, WA 98055. Be sure to refer to Aeronautical Study no. 2003-ANM-306-NRA. AOPA requests that members send a copy of their comments to AOPA at asn@aopa.org, with "DLS comments" in the subject line.
