Club Facilities

  • AOPA Network Club

Why I'm interested in starting a club:
To provide more variety of aircraft at a reasonable cost for enough pilots that make the club financially feasible, yet now too high pilot/aircraft ratio that it is difficult to schedule.

Description of the hangar/clubhouse facilities:
Start with existing T hangar, add another adjacent, then as the club grows, move into a larger facility. Ensuring financial security is the key element for success, so slow, planned growth is essential. Hangar is no issue as there are several at KAWO, and the city of Arlington, WA is very supportive of their municipal airport. Washington Dept of Aviation is on the field also. My local EAA chapter (Snohomish 84) has Dynon employees and I hope to have their help forming the club and possibly equipping aircraft.

Progress made towards starting the club:
I have briefly mentioned at my local Washington Pilot's Association (WPA) meeting, and a local EAA meeting, as well as to friends. The reception on the concept has been great. The $5,000 to $7,000 buy-in ensures members have a minimum level of financial security, and some sweat-equity work will also be required. Dues are envisioned to be in the $50 to $125/month area (exact TBD). The $1,000 scholarship would be used to create a LLC, pay for mailing and web promotion to local pilots, and other costs of formation (like initial insurance (not aircraft, but club)). None would go to any member; all work will be volunteer until close to build-out, then maybe part-time secretarial and maintenance persons hired. Approx half aircraft would be light sport because avg age of pilots in the area is high and increasing and more are looking to fly light sport. At least one would be acrobatic, and MAYBE one would be 6 place as maybe the last aircraft. Members vote and decide.
