Ocracoke

WHERE TO STAY

Anchorage Inn. We stayed at this 35-room four-story hotel that overlooks the harbor at Silver Lake. The amenities were basic but the room views were terrific and the staff extremely pleasant.

Other places that looked interesting:

Blackbeard’s Lodge
Captain’s Landing Inn
Edwards of Ocracoke
Ocracoke Harbor Inn
Pony Island Motel

WHERE TO EAT

We enjoyed these spots on the island:

Dajio Restaurant. Pizza and seafood.

Flying Melon. New Orleans style seafood.

Howard’s Pub. Oldest pub on the island (1985; we weren’t impressed with that but the food was good).

Ocracoke Coffee Co. The “fancy” coffee drinkers went there each morning. Some of us were content with the inn’s free coffee.

Ocracoke Oyster Co. Under new ownership, the staff here was great. Basic fried seafood in a fun atmosphere.

Pony Island Restaurant. The oldest restaurant on the island (1959, now that’s impressive). Big, hearty breakfasts.

SmacNally’s Raw Bar & Grill. Perfect spot to watch the fishing boats return.
