Chelton parent company to buy S-Tec

By AOPA ePublishing staff

Cobham PLC, parent company of Chelton Flight Systems, announced Nov. 26 that it has reached an agreement to buy S-Tec Corp. for $38 million in cash.

S-Tec, a subsidiary of Meggitt PLC, designs, certifies, and manufactures autopilots for general aviation airframers and the aftermarket. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval. S-Tec will continue to operate from its headquarters at Mineral Wells Airport in Texas.

The S-Tec Fifty Five X autopilot, with GPS steering capability, is a primary panel component in the AOPA Catch-A-Cardinal Sweepstakes airplane, which will be delivered to a lucky winner in early 2008.
