This year, AOPA asked members to choose their favorite 10 aviation apps. Participants in the friendly poll chose from between one and 10 apps from a list of 30 picked by AOPA editors. Members voted over a few weeks, and at least one app developer, SocialFlight, sent a notice to its subscribers urging them to vote for the app. That tactic must have worked, as SocialFlight landed in the fourth slot.
The top vote getter was the electronic flight bag ForeFlight with 1,292 votes.
Rounding out the top 10 were FlightAware with 1,156 votes, LiveATC with 983 votes, SocialFlight with 867 votes, FltPlan with 581 votes, MyRadar with 488 votes, CSC DUATS with 475 votes, FlyQ EFB with 439 votes, Sporty’s E6B with 386 votes, and CloudAhoy with 337 votes.
There were more than 600 write-in votes, and the top three apps were Avare, FlightRadar24, and Naviator. A complete list of all apps highlighted since October 2012 can be found here. These are not endorsements of any app.
Developers provide updates on aviation apps and mobile websites that handle the FAR/AIM, FBO fuel price checks, flight planning, and eAPIS.
Owners, fleet operators, and mechanics may want to try out these five apps that handle tasks from tracking fasteners to tracking maintenance schedules.
It's time for the randomizer, which has chosen five apps can help pilots with tasks ranging from preflight calculations to electronic flight bags.
AOPA thanks our members for their continued support in protecting the freedom to fly.
