Flight Display Systems now lets passengers control onboard entertainment systems from a watch-style controller. It’s called the Wearable Cabin Controller.
“The Wearable Cabin Controller is a first in this market,” says David Gray, president of Flight Display Systems, “We’re hoping to demonstrate a cool new gadget and get feedback from our dealers and customers.”
Passengers can quickly view flight data such as speed, altitude, estimated time of arrival, and more. It may also control lights, audio, and video. Attendants can use the devices for passenger communications and alerts.
In other Flight Display news, the company has introduced the Jetstreamer, an entry-level entertainment platform that streams movies, music, and other content to carry-on devices such as tablets, laptops, and smartphones. It can serve eight passengers. No internet connection is required.
Also, Flight Display now offers an ultra-high-resolution Worldwide Moving Map for business and private aircraft. The new map provides a super-detailed resolution of 90 square meters per pixel. The map will be available this fall.
High-definition cabin displays measuring 23.8 inches and 39 inches are also available.
“We were one of the first to market with aircraft-grade HD displays. Now our team is developing 4K displays and the quality will blow you away,” said Gray. The displays will be useful in special mission applications. As more 4K content becomes available, private and business jet uses will increase.
