Commercial flight planning service FltPlan and Angel Flight West are integrating so that the nonprofit organization can match passenger needs with volunteer pilots’ existing flight schedules.
“Historically, we did not have a good way to learn of the existing flights of our volunteer pilots,” Josh Olson, executive director of Angel Flight West, said in a Jan. 27 news release. Angel Flight West’s volunteer pilots provide free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs.
The organization’s current network of more than 1,400 pilots in 13 western states is housed in a database that has been integrated with FltPlan. Any time a pilot who is a registered Angel Flight West volunteer uses the website or mobile app to create a flight plan, it is posted to that database. “This enables Angel Flight West to determine if that route matches any upcoming Angel Flight mission,” FltPlan said.
FltPlan users will need to provide Angel Flight West with their FltPlan user name by submitting it via email or updating pilot information in account settings in the Angel Flight West database. Angel Flight West will remove usernames from the system for those who do not wish to participate.
“We are committed to giving back and we are delighted that many of the people who use FltPlan will make a difference by providing a travel solution for patients and families,” said FltPlan Vice President Sarah Wilson. “We look forward to supporting Angel Flight’s mission.”
FltPlan serves more than 150,000 pilots with a free website and mobile apps for Android and iOS devices. The integration encompasses Angel Flight West only and does not extend to any other Angel Flight organizations at this time.
