Bose announced a number of upgrades to its popular A20 high-end active noise reduction headset at EAA AirVenture.
The most anticipated update is expanded Bluetooth connectivity, which enables users to stream music, phone calls, and iPad application aural alerts. Previously the A20's Bluetooth only allowed for phone calls. A creative new feature is the ability to select two modes—mixed or mute. On mixed mode, the headset will allow multiple communication channels to come in at one time. Radio communications and a phone call will happen together, for example. On mute mode, the Bluetooth audio is blocked during an intercom or radio exchange.
The company's obsession with audio quality comes through on the Bluetooth, according to a representative. Saying it's Bose quality means it meets a certain objective criteria that users will notice, he said.
A critical feature for helicopter pilots, the headset is now available with an optional coil cord. Finally, the aircraft-powered version has a new auto-on feature, which powers the headset only when the avionics are activated.
The Bluetooth version of the headset is available for $1,095.95, and a version without Bluetooth will sell for $995.95. Current A20 owners can upgrade their headsets for $295.
