Users will soon be able to export flight plans from the AvPlan EFB into the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck app, Jeppesen announced March 17.
Integration between the two apps simplifies preflight preparations for AvPlan EFB users who use Jeppesen charts and allows customers to use AvPlan EFB planning capabilities outside of the areas where the company offers procedure coverage, according to AvPlan EFB Managing Director Bevan Anderson. AvPlan EFB specializes in services in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Pilots that use both Jeppesen and AvPlan EFB services will welcome this integration of flight planning and navigation information through Mobile FliteDeck to increase efficiency related to preparation, planning and flight execution,” said Scott Reagan, director of Jeppesen OEM business development, in a media release.
Anderson told AOPA that his company focuses on preflight planning, refining features such as route and airspeed optimization, weight and balance, and prediction of fuel burns. The app accesses an international database of airports and waypoints for worldwide flight planning, he said, but cannot be used in the air outside of AvPlan’s coverage area.
Now, users will be able to connect their AvPlan flight plans to Jeppesen’s worldwide navigation database; instrument procedures for airports will be linked to the entered flight plan. Anderson said another benefit is to pilots with Jeppesen plates built into their panel: They can do their planning on the iPad and then fly with FliteDeck approach plates connected to the panel, he said.
