Sandel Avionics now offers 200-series King Air owners an alternative when upgrading their aircraft—an Avilon flight deck for $175,000 that comes assembled, removing the need to create custom wiring harnesses and racks.
“From the company’s inception Sandel has a history of introducing groundbreaking technologies that defy industry conventions,” said Gerry Block, president and CEO of Sandel Avionics. “Avilon continues that tradition by filling the need for an advanced turboprop flight deck retrofit solution that makes sense.”
The Avilon includes radios, a flight management computer, audio control, an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast-capable Mode S transponder, a flight director, and an autopilot. Information presented to the pilot “highlights the data that is most relevant to the current phase of flight,” the company said in a news release.
An Avilon Path Guidance Panel provides a continuous displayed path. It is presented on two screens at the very top of the panel above the center screens. One shows a path that is similar to course paths seen on today’s avionics. The screen to the right shows altitude as it will be three minutes into the future.
The units are scheduled to begin shipping in June 2016.
