Aspen offers ADS-B solution

Aspen, L-3 integrationAspen Avionics Evolution displays are now certified by the FAA to work with L-3’s Lynx Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) products.

The interface enables the Aspen displays to show ADS-B weather and traffic data from either the Lynx NGT-9000 transponder model or the NGT-2500 remote universal access transceiver box. The NextGen Active Traffic system on the NGT-9000+ model also will show active TAS traffic on the Aspen display.

The Lynx NGT-9000 Mode S extended squitter transponder has a touchscreen display and built-in GPS/WAAS. It uses an RS-232 interface to deliver ADS-B traffic and weather data to the Aspen Evolution displays. The NGT-2500 is an ADS-B Out/In system that works with existing Mode S extended squitter transponders. It also has an embedded GPS/WAAS source.

“What we are seeing now is that customers are shifting their focus from the question of what is ADS-B to researching their options of how they get the most benefit from the mandate,” said Mark Ferrari, vice president sales and customer support for Aspen Avionics. “Clearly, the solutions made possible by Aspen’s partnership with L-3 provides a range of solutions that add value at a cost that is very affordable.”

“Those pilots who have waited years for avionics upgrades and ADS-B equipage are finally getting an affordable and powerful duo with Lynx and Aspen,” said Larry Riddle, L-3 Aviation Products vice president of marketing and sales.

The L-3 NGT-9000 costs $6,800 through the end of December 2015, while the L-3 NGT-2500 has a promotional price of $3,467 for the same period. If you don’t already have an Aspen glass cockpit, here are some prices for the primary display in front of the pilot and the multifunction display in front of the copilot or front seat passenger. The Aspen Evolution EFD1000 Pro Primary Flight Display is $10,700, while the Evolution EFD1000 Pro Plus (which includes AOA and synthetic vision) is $13,995. The Aspen Evolution MFD1000 multifunction display is $8,625, while the Evolution MFD500 multifunction display is $5,245.
