The FAA has implemented new guidelines that allow Aviation Medical Examiners to issue medical certificates without written or verbal FAA approval for certain medical conditions that previously required special issuance authorizations.  For prostate cancer without evidence of extra-capsular disease, your AME may issue you a medical certificate in the office if you provide the AME with:

1.  A current status report from your treating physician;
2.  All pertinent medical reports to include staging, PSA, a metastatic workup;
3.  The operative report if surgery was performed, or;
4.  Report of other treatment.  

For recertification at the time of your next medical renewal, you will repeat the process and provide the above information to your AME.

If the records demonstrate the cancer has spread beyond the capsule or there is evidence of any other advanced disease, your application will be deferred and the medical records will be forwarded to the FAA for a decision. It is possible you may still be found qualified for a special issuance authorization or an AASI Protocol.
