Legal Intern - Summer 2018Legal Intern

Location: Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Frederick, Maryland

Paid Summer Internship: Start May/June  

AOPA’s Summer Legal Internship Program strives to offer a diverse, meaningful, and rewarding experience through the Office of AOPA’s General Counsel including activities similar to the following:

AOPA Legal Services Plan

  • Develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
  • Conduct legal research, analyze legal issues, and assist LSP attorneys in providing legal advice to plan participants on aviation-related matters
  • Assist in the development of panel attorney seminar materials and resources

AOPA Government Affairs

  • Support AOPA’s initiative to address egregious FBO pricing practices and protect airport access
  • Provide legal research and analysis relating to FAA airport grant assurances
  • Draft correspondence to governmental bodies such as airport sponsors

AOPA General Legal Needs

  • Support the AOPA General Counsel by providing legal research and analysis of legal issues affecting a tax-exempt, aviation membership organization


  • Open to all law students currently enrolled in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association
  • Must have a passion for aviation law and policy issues, possess excellent legal research and analysis capabilities, and superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Has had flight training, but pilot certificate is preferred
