Lone Pine Backcountry Fly-In

Start Date: Friday, October 4th, 2024

End Date: Sunday, October 6th, 2024

Description

Fly into the beautiful Lone Pine, CA Airport (O26) right underneath Mount Whitney for the 5th annual weekend of aviation fellowship, local fly-outs, and fun. Come see a different side of California—one that is less connected to the Pacific Coast and more connected culturally and geographically to the interior American West. This backcountry-focused weekend is centered around camaraderie and flying. Please fill out the pre-registration with as much detail as possible to help us build the back-country fly-outs itinerary and keep you apprised of event updates. Official events and arrivals commence Friday with informal flying throughout the day. Please be on deck in Lone Pine no later than 5pm to facilitate evening activities. Saturday morning fly-out groups led by locals will visit desert and Sierra mountain strips. Learn about the local back-country scene and experience the raw beauty, unique geography, and union of the high Sierras and Death Valley. Fly-outs will be tailored to aircraft and pilot abilities with a required mass briefing Friday evening at 8pm and a pre-flight huddle on Saturday morning with each group. Sunday brunch will be a fly-in group meal at the famous Panamint Springs Resort in Death Valley National Park. https://www.panamintsprings.com *Thursday arrivals are welcome and camping is permitted, although there is no on-site support / events.* Friday and Saturday night dinner will feature local food trucks on the ramp! Camping is available on-site. Local hotel options are available as well. The Best Western Motel in Lone Pine is right on the field. Contact the Best Western directly to secure a room (760) 876-5571 and mention the fly-in for special room rate (Fly-In) Lone Pine Best Western . The historic Dow Villa Hotel is offering rooms for the fly-in as well.
